My first foray into my initial love

Had some Robinsons vouchers to spare (courtesy of my ex-colleagues) so off I went to spend it and what better way to do it than to buy some jewelry.

And so I spent a nice afternoon with Sheryl who very nicely intro and explained to me what jade is and etc and at the end I got this little peach (I think, that's what it is...) or radish???

This will be my baby steps into owning some of my favourite gems.  Jade and Pearls.

I know, very auntie but I like gems that gives an understated elegance to it rather than blaring it out for all to see, not to say that I don’t own any bling but sometimes you just want to be quiet instead of shouting out to the worldSmile

见或不见-一个仓央嘉措情诗

Heard this chinese poem in one of China’s period drama and it strikes a cord.

Here is a little background of the poet who wrote it.  I think it supposedly should be more spiritual in meaning but well, the romantic kind works better for me:

见或不见

你见,或者不见我
我就在那里不悲不喜
你念,或者不念我
情就在那里不来不去
你爱,或者不爱我
爱就在那里不增不减
你跟,或者不跟我
我的手就在你手里不舍不弃
来我的怀里或者
让我住进你的心里
默然 相爱
寂静 欢喜

Counting down…..

I don’t know why I subject myself to this stupid torture every week.  But nevermind.  The light at the end of the tunnel is coming nearer.  Just 2 more weeks to go and I’ll be home free!!!!  Yeah free of the mental torture that I had to pay for!  Pissed off! Steaming mad

Totally makes no sense to pay money to stress and let ppl do that to my mental health!  No sense at all!

My first Tag purchase

Was notified of the sale event by a dear friend.  Though I knew that I had to go early but was stuck at work.

Alas when I reached, I was one of the last customers to enter and all the enviable models were long gone.

The sales staff (many of whom were boutique managers of sorts) said that queue started forming as early as 8am!

Was salivating after the Tag Heuer’s Monaco but it was not to be.  It had apparently, sold out by 10 am.

To cut the story short, after hemming and hawing, I decided to get this:

The Aquaracer 2000 series

They only had the gents size but that is ok.  Cos I love big watches.  After a 50% discount, I can say that it is a pretty good buyWinking smile

Slowly and surely, I am making my way up to a Rolex (I hope)

This is the song that I danced my first waltz to....

Would be prefect if my dance buddy is not so young and sooo aware of offending his girlfriend. Oh well....

Meetup with Maangchi

Had a short period of time in between schedule to meet and greet Maangchi from Maangchi.com.

If you do not know who she is, she is the creator of a very popular korean cooking channel on youtube and owner of maangchi.com

The meetup was held in botanic gardens and I got to taste her whelk noodles (yum!!)

Am sorely embarrassed that I didn’t manage to contribute for the event (I only brought myself) ;P

Here are a few photos for souveniors

Why do we go through the torture....

of hanging out with people who occasionally test your patience or have totally different views from you?

I guess, its a simple theory of needing them to be around you when u need them?

When they need you, you are there for them and one always hope that when you need them, they will be here for you.

This is especially true for singles..... You do need to build up your network of friends as a buffer.

No man is an island and I believe that holds true for all the relationship that everyone have.....

Top brands tested by Korean TV show “Get It” <<美容畅谈>>

The tv show did a blind testing for some of the common beauty products being used with 100 panelists.  5 products from different brands were put into unlabelled jars/bottles and given to the panelists to try for 10 days.  Here are some of the no. 1s being chosen by the ladies (winter episode so products tend to be a bit more moisturising than what we are used to)

Not sure if I remember it right but:

Toner:

Clarins Exfoliating Toner (sorry can’t remember no. 2)

Moisturising Cream:

  1. Bobbi Brown’s Hydrating Face cream(methinks)
  2. Etude House Moistfull cream

Lipstick

  1. Shu Uemura (clear lip case range)
  2. Tony Moly (thin casing range)

Foundation:

  1. Bobbi Brown’s Skin Foundation SPF 15
  2. Shu Uemura Deep Sea Foundation

美人心计

Currently chasing this show 美人心计 by Ruby Lin (林心如)  It has been such a long time since I have watched her in tv shows and she is still as pretty.

The term of “氧气美人” should be given to her instead of 李英爱 keke.

Here are some of the screen shots:

Ruby Lin Ruby Lin

Chen Jian Feng

Her inshow Hubby, Chen Jian Feng from TVB

Myolie Wu

Myolie Wu also cameo for several episodes in the show

I think eventually I’ll just buy the complete dvd set so that I can collect the whole episode.  After all, the show has so many beautiful ladies;P

Fave shops or places I prefer to shop in Paris

Monoprix, they are the equivalent of Carrefour and better!  Get all ur Nuxe, LaRoche Posay etc there.

H & M, I prefer the one in Champs Elysees cos they give out different paper bags that you can bring home as souvenirs.

Printemps, for all non LV shopping cos the tour bus don’t drop loads of tourists there.  However, they have smaller detaxe counters

Galeries Lafayette for LV shopping.

Hermes, Rue St Honore the HQ need I say more?

Chanel at Rue Montiagne.  Dunno why but when I was there they have a wider availability of Chanel accessories

Survival Tips for Winter Paris 2010 Part I

I had thought I'd better list them down before I'd clean forgotten them all! These are what I had experienced from my trip.

  1. You don’t need to fill in any immigration forms when you go into any EU country (Singaporean Passport holders)
  2. When it snows, bring a waterproof down parker at all cost!
  3. Bring 2 change of clothes, wear one pair of pants/jeans and pack the other.
  4. Bring along a slingbag for ez reach.  NEVER use a backpack!
  5. If you are not a sandwich person, would advise you to pack abit more cup noodles cos that’s all Paris have to offer for budget travellers.
  6. When in Paris, spend the extra effort to get the Navigo Decouverte pass. It will come in handy esp in the winter you can just zip into the Metro for a one stop ride.
  7. Choose a hotel within 5 mins walking distance to a Metro station. So much more easier to drop off ur shopping and zip out again for part 2.
  8. Try and arrive on a Sunday and recce out the places you want to go and then get the Navigo Decouverte at the same time. Then you can use it immediately on a Monday.
  9. The day is super short in Winter, plan to go slow and do one big thing per day.  Lourve-one day, Eiffel Tower-one day etc.  Rest of the time left you can walk around small streets and be surprised by what you can find there.
  10. In Dec 2010, quota for detax by LV is one passport-1 wallet, 1 small accessory and 1 handbag.  Chanel is 2 earrings, 2 wallet, 2 necklaces and 2 handbags.
  11. Bring your passport when you are shopping cos detaxe is only done with your passport
  12. I prefer to do my shopping in department stores like Galeries Lafayette and Printemps.  Service there are generally better than standalone boutiques.  If you have to go to the boutiques, try to get the Causasians or the Native Africans to serve you.  Just DON’T find fellow Asians!!!  For some reason or another, their service sucks!!!
  13. Pertaining to the abovementioned tips, if looking for a non Asian SA, you MUST say Bonjour to them!! Make a little bit of effort, every Oui will be worth it! And it doesn't hurt to smile lots too
  14. Get to the airport 3 hrs before flight take off to do your detax and there may be a looooonnnngggg queue at customs (when I was leaving, there was only 1 person stamping the passport)
  15. If you are leaving from Charles de Gaulle T3, good for you.  That is the newest terminal so I would assume shopping to be the best.  If T1, you’d best have ur Starbucks coffee before you go into the restricted area.
  16. For detax, always make sure the custom ppl either scan the tax forms (for those handwritten forms ) or chop them (for those typewritten forms ala Printemps)
